No kings in the White House

I write this on Memorial Day, in profound gratitude for the fallen heroes who threw off a tyrant king during the American Revolution, and for all of their patriotic successors in the battles since, who fought and died to keep our American democratic republic alive and healthy.

I fear that their rest is no longer in peace, however, as our beloved country is now facing a challenge that I had never expected: a sitting president who is placing himself above the rule of law and due process, who sabotages Congress' laws despite his sworn duty to faithfully execute them, who does not acknowledge the 22nd Amendment's bar to a third term, who scoops up forbidden emoluments (payments, air craft, etc.) from foreign leaders, who cozies up to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and who enriches himself and his billionaire friends at the expense of health research, Medicaid and veterans' care (among innumerable other catastrophic failings).

Saturday, June 14, is Flag Day, and is the anniversary of the 1775 founding of the U.S. Army, both of which richly deserve the nation's recognition. Unfortunately, it is also the coincidental date of the unfit leader's birthday, and he's twisting the D.C. commemoration into a personal veneration, a sort of beta test for a coronation.

On June 14, we are called to choose, and I implore all patriots to oppose fascism, to support democracy, to conserve our American heritage, and to honor the fallen heroes by peaceably (but loudly) assembling at their local No Kings! event (NoKings.org), proving that we will never acquiesce to a tyrant!
